Under a polyphasic sleep routine, every minute of sleep during the nap counts. I've discovered an effective technique for falling asleep as soon as possible after I lie down: I fix my gaze (eyes closed) on a certain point and clear my head completely. I push any thoughts that come to my mind immediately away. Occasionally, if thoughts cloud my mind, I will imagine myself alone in a large field or pond. This is a meditation technique I have taken from yoga.
Occasionally, in the middle of the day, my mind is too active for me to sleep. When this happens, I will often remain semi-conscious and attain a somewhat of a body high. Based on my cursory knowledge of the subject, I believe my meditation, combined with polyphasic's more focused REM cycle, may be beginning to induce a lucid dream state. I have already had one of my first full-fledged lucid dreams since being on a polyphasic schedule. I am excited to see if I will experience more.
